Does syndicated or fractional ownership work for motorhomes?

We are sometimes asked if it is possible to split the ownership of a motorhome between a few couples or families so the costs and use of the vehicle can be shared. We can confirm that it is possible and working well for three Canadian couples who purchased in the spring of last year.

Our solution for foreign buyers to purchase, register and insure a vehicle in France involves creating a small company structure in which you own the motorhome This company can have as many shareholders as you like so it is very easy to own a motorhome with a sound legal structure in place to divide it up in equal shares.

Having seen how well this works with three couples, we can highly recommend fractional ownership for that number. Our three Canadian couples hatched a great plan where the first couple picked it up last year and used it to travel between spring and mid-summer, handed it over at an airport in Italy to the second couple who used it for the rest of the summer/autumn then returned to store the motorhome with us for the winter. Couple number three have picked it up this spring and are now touring until mid-summer before handing it back over to couple number one for their second trip.

All three couples are retired so can get away for long trips and we cannot think of a more cost effective way to own a motorhome and tour Europe. All the costs of ownership are shared, yet each couple can come for three months at a time (which is a typical trip duration for clients in exclusive ownership anyway).

Clearly, you’d want to know and trust the other people that you enter into this kind of arrangement with and you’d need to arrive at a firm and fair plan for the vehicle’s use. It would also be a good idea to have a plan for how and when you are going exit from the arrangement but if you have friends or family members to share a motorhome with, we think this is a great idea. If you buy a motorhome from us, the ownership solution is already in place, it will cost you a fraction of exclusive ownership and will give you access to the joys of owning a motorhome in which you can explore Europe.
